WIDE - TEE

In this episode of How They Scaled It, host Courtney sits down with Dani Pickens, Founder & Chief Enablement Officer of The Executive Evolution (TEE). If you’ve ever felt the isolation of climbing the ladder alone or seen the ripple effects of a single powerful connection, this is the story behind the woman building bridges and a sisterhood.

From Door-to-Door Sales to Channel Chief

Dani didn’t step into tech leadership through a polished internship or curated path. She answered a Craigslist ad for door-to-door sales after moving back from Istanbul, selling home phone and DSL in rural neighborhoods. What she learned? Rejection builds resilience and resilience builds leaders. “You get used to hearing no, but crave the yes even more,” she shares.

That mindset fueled her rise in telecom. But success wasn’t always smooth. Dani set a goal to become a Channel Chief by 40 and crushed it by 36. Her journey included leaving safe, well-paying roles, enduring scrutiny, and taking leaps others warned against. “You have to take calculated risks,” she says. “You won’t win every time, but you can’t win if you don’t play.”

The Lawsuit That Almost Broke Her

In 2020, Dani made a move that ignited a non-compete lawsuit, severing ties with longtime industry friends, some even in her wedding party. What followed were 15 months of legal battles, restraining orders, and complete professional isolation. “I tell people I almost didn’t survive it,” Dani says.

That season of pain gave birth to purpose. “I told the universe: if I survive this, I’ll pour into every other woman I can. I’ll build something that lets no one go through this alone.” That promise became The Executive Evolution.

Scaling Sisterhood: The Executive Evolution

TEE started with one simple goal: build a safe space for women in tech to connect, mentor, and grow together. What started as a few coffee chats has grown to over 120 members across four cities, with zero dues or fees—just community.

The mission? Radical accessibility. “We didn’t want money to be a barrier,” Dani explains. TEE welcomes everyone from fresh college grads to seasoned Channel Chiefs. Mentorship isn’t a side benefit; it’s the heartbeat. Members are placed through a structured application process, ensuring both mentors and mentees grow from the exchange. “You’re owning your life, your business, your evolution,” Dani says. “That makes you an executive.”

Scaling Pains, Growing Pains

Growth brings challenges. With demand now outpacing bandwidth, Dani admits the scaling process has been both thrilling and exhausting. “Could we have scaled faster with better processes? Maybe. But we’re doing the best we can and the need is clear.”

She credits their all-volunteer board and a growing number of city-based co-chairs with helping maintain their authenticity while expanding. A retreat in Austin with 30 women from across the U.S. catalyzed the formation of the board, and now each community is led by a trio of local co-chairs to ensure no one carries the weight alone.

Doing Good, Together

Connection isn’t just about career moves. TEE hosts an annual charity event in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, packing “Hope Kits” for women in treatment. “When you write a note to a woman you’ve never met and place it in a box with fuzzy socks and lemon drops—it’s human. It’s real,” Dani says.

They’ve also launched TEE Talks, a speaker series offering practical education on financial literacy, legal rights, and leadership. And most recently, they introduced the Leadership Exchange, a closed-door program for 15 women currently in program leadership roles. Demand? There’s already a waiting list.

“Don’t Stop. Just Keep Going.”

Balancing TEE, a demanding executive role, and parenting two boys is no small feat. Dani credits her support system and her unshakable belief in the mission. “I don’t sleep much,” she laughs. “But when you believe in something, it fuels you.”

Her leadership style is deeply human. Vulnerability isn’t a liability; it’s a strength. Her advice? “Start acting like the leader you want to be. You don’t need a title to lead. Just do the work. Be authentic. And never stop learning.”
