In this episode of How They Scaled It, host Courtney sits down with Andre Wouansi, Founder of Accurate Legal Billing (ALB), a legal tech platform that’s transformed how law firms track time, comply with billing guidelines, and get paid faster. If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind the AI tools saving firms millions in billing rejections, this is the story behind the visionary who built it from the ground up.

From Fixing Mistakes to Preventing Them

Andre Wouansi didn’t set out to be a legal tech disruptor. His career started in accounting and financial services, eventually leading him into the world of bill auditing. Over two decades, his company audited legal invoices from 65+ countries, helping major insurance carriers and TPAs recover billions in overbilled fees.

But the work was cyclical and frustrating. Law firms kept making the same mistakes. Payments were delayed. Time was wasted on back-and-forths. The billing inefficiencies were costing firms more than just money.

So Andre did something radical: he stepped away from auditing and created a solution to prevent the very errors he used to catch.

“I went from being part of the problem to leading the solution,” he said. “I knew the industry better than most, and I knew it could be fixed.”

Turning Vision Into Code Without Writing a Line

Despite not having a tech background, Andre’s visionary approach bridged the gap between idea and execution. He wasn’t a developer, but his logical training as an accountant gave him a unique ability to think like one. He surrounded himself with talented engineers who could bring his vision to life.

The first iteration of Accurate Legal Billing looked nothing like what it is today, but it worked. It addressed a massive pain point: how to make legal billing compliant, efficient, and AI-optimized from the start.

Still, building the product was only half the challenge. Getting law firms to use it was another.

Breaking Through a Resistant Industry

If you’ve ever tried to sell innovation to an industry steeped in tradition, you’ll know the hurdles. Law firms were slow to change, even when they knew they were leaving money on the table.

Andre’s strategy? Go straight to the top.

Instead of chasing mid-level staff who lacked decision-making power, he reached out directly to managing partners and CFOs. When that didn’t work, he went even bolder: he offered to do the integration himself, at no cost, just to prove the platform’s value.

That first big law firm became a case study that led to others. The proof was undeniable: law firms using ALB saw measurable improvements in compliance, cash flow, and time savings. Over the last five years alone, Andre estimates ALB has helped clients recover over $225 million—and that’s just in hard cost savings.

Betting on Better: AI, Voice, and the Cloud

Fast-forward a decade, and ALB is at the forefront of legal AI. Their platform now uses natural language processing, machine learning, and mobile voice-entry tools that can auto-generate compliant time entries from spoken notes.

In the past, senior attorneys might scribble their time entries on paper and hand them off to an assistant to decipher. Today, they can dictate a few sentences into a mobile app, and ALB transforms it into a polished, billable entry that’s ready to submit.

Andre’s relentless innovation didn’t stop at time tracking. In 2025, he’s launching a new AI-powered platform that streamlines eBilling submissions across 35+ platforms. What once took two or three full-time staff can now be done by a single person faster, cheaper, and with full visibility into submission status.

“We listened to what firms were asking for,” he said. “And we built a tool that will relieve a huge pain point across the board.”

Leading with Mindset and Meaning

While the technology is impressive, Andre’s true superpower might be his mindset. He sees challenges as lessons, rejections as redirection, and feedback, whether positive or not, as fuel for growth.

His leadership philosophy centers on positivity and personal growth. He mentors his staff not just on performance, but on language. Phrases like “I’ll try my best” are replaced with “I will do it.” Why? Because belief precedes achievement.

That shift in culture has led to faster deployments, better client outcomes, and a team that believes in the mission. And for Andre, that’s the ultimate definition of growth.

“Success isn’t just revenue,” he explained. “It’s creating opportunities for return-to-work moms. It’s helping clients get paid faster. It’s seeing your team believe in themselves.”
